About Our Curriculum

Young children learn by doing. They acquire knowledge about their world through meaningful interaction with objects and people. Children are motivated to learn by their own desire to make sense of their world.

Our curriculum approach is based on the philosophy of the HighScope Educational Research Foundation. Active Participatory Learning is at the heart of the HighScope curriculum. The HighScope Wheel of Learning shows how teachers work with the materials, environment and routine to provide a supportive curriculum that meets children’s developmental needs and interests.

In addition to using the HighScope Curriculum, Down on the Farm incorporates investigative themes into their day. Investigative themes is an in-depth study on a specific topic that is hands-on, real life experiences that that we offer here at our farm and nature setting.

Our preschool programs also use Handwriting Without Tears, Phonic Soup, and Second Steps into their daily routine.
